Numeracy Assessments

Quick and Effective Number Assessment

Need an effective number assessment that could help you effectively plan your numeracy resource groups in Kinder and first grade? Administering a quick number test to all of the children can help you pinpoint specific difficulties. In turn, similar difficulties are grouped together.

Numeracy Assessment Test

Assessing number knowledge 1-10 and 1-20. Easy Assessment tool to quickly assess number recognition and number sense. Quick and effective number assessment.

Being able to understand and manipulate numbers – having number sense – is the foundation of math. Students should be able to:

  • count
  • identify numerals
  • represent numbers
  • manipulate numbers in different ways

This quick and effective number assessment evaluates number knowledge from 0 to 10 and from 0-20 and assesses the above skills.

Use the results from the assessment to form your small groups. For extra practice, you may send home the parent letter to inform parents of student difficulties.

Are you a Resource Teacher Working with Many Students?

Creating small blended resource groups with students from different classes, can help you maximize your time and efforts! I haven’t yet met a resource teacher or interventionist that has extra time to spare.

Based on the results of this number test as well as how many children you have on your caseload, a possible group configuration could be:

  1. Counting and representing numbers – use manipulatives to count, represent a set of objects with a number, identify the amount of objects in a group etc.
  2. Manipulating numbers – use ‘before and after’ games to identify numbers, representing numbers in a 10 frame and adding/subtracting them. Incorporate number laminated number lines and hide numbers. Ask the students to identify the missing number.
